FAQ
The answer may already be here
When does electronic time recording become mandatory?
The recording obligation already applies. The Federal Labour Court confirmed it in September 2022, following the European Court of Justice ruling of 2019. Only the form is still open. The June 2026 draft of the Working Hours Act would make electronic recording the standard, with fines up to €50,000. It has not been passed yet. The draft foresees transition periods of one year, of two years below 250 employees and of five years below 50. Businesses with up to ten employees stay exempt from the electronic form. Recording on paper or in Excel today meets the obligation, but probably not for much longer.
Does this work with Odoo Online?
Yes, as the only solution on the market. On the One App Free and Standard plans, however, Odoo does not expose the interface we need; there the device runs over a compatibility path with limitations. The compatibility check tells you in three questions which applies to you.
Which Odoo versions are supported?
Odoo 17, 18 and 19, each on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh and your own server. Older versions are not supported, because Odoo 17 fundamentally changed how attendance is processed. Where Odoo enables the External API, the terminal uses the JSON-2 API on Odoo 19 and XML-RPC on 17 and 18. On the Odoo Online plans One App Free and Standard it uses the kiosk interface.
Where in Odoo does the device record attendance?
Into the Odoo Attendances app. Each clock-in or clock-out is recorded there. Employees are matched by the badge ID in their employee record. The device does not record project time and does not export payroll data.
Do we need an account with you?
No. The device connects directly to your Odoo and is configured through the browser. You only need an account with us if you want to manage several devices centrally.
What happens if the network goes down?
The device stores clock-ins locally and submits them once the connection returns, carrying the time they actually happened. The queue survives a power cut.
Can you see our employees' working hours?
No, and not for technical reasons we could reverse. Entries go from the device straight into your Odoo, with no detour via our servers. We only ever see technical device data, and only if you create an account. Should a paid module change that, we set out before you book it which data goes where.
Are there per-employee fees?
No. Whether ten or two hundred people clock in changes nothing about the price.
Which badges work?
MIFARE (13.56 MHz) and EM4100 (125 kHz). Existing employee badges can usually be reused. You can order badges from us alongside the device.
How long does setup take?
Under ten minutes, with no IT knowledge. Mount it, scan the QR code, enter your Odoo details, wait for the connection test.
Can the device open doors or read fingerprints?
It does not open doors, that is a deliberate boundary and it stays. As shipped the device reads badges and nothing else: no biometrics, no camera. For businesses that need a fingerprint there is a paid module planned. Booking it is then a deliberate decision with its own legal basis, not a quiet extension.
Rather talk it through?
Fifteen minutes is usually enough to work out whether and how this fits your setup.
